Google is far ahead in front of their competitor in search engine market share. They protect this market with many services, not just in refining search engine algorithms but also provide many free services for internet users and especially for marketers and publishers.

In my opinion, Google most important tools and services are Google Keyword Tool and Google Analytics. These are fundamental tools for publisher to help their blog/site have better SEO, perform better on SERP (Search Engine Result Page), and give comprehensive statistical data.

There are many guides to get the most of these tools. The new Google Adwords Keyword Tool gives publishers and marketer easiness to find high search keyword with low to medium level of competition, while Google Analytics will gives continues feedback and decision support system to make your blogs and sites perform better. These tools are powerful enough but Google wants to spoil their audience with more useful tool to get more keywords ideas and how to get the latest trends easily. These tools are: Google Trends, Google Alerts and Google Insight.

Google Trends

Google Trends provides a real time report on query volume of that particularly keyword as well as blog and news posts about that topic. Two most important features in Google Trends are Hot Trends feature and the Search trends feature. Hot Trends are quite useful for those who on lifestyle, entertainment or celebrities niche and always need to publish the latest topics or gossip.

The search trends are for fun to explore. There are few ways to get some insight from Google Trends, usually what I do is comparing few subject or website – very useful for affiliate marketers, especially for those who still wonder which retailers more attractive and what their visitors searched for. In this example shoes retailer, I’m wondering which more attractive: endless.com or Shoes.com. Just by comparing these two sites you can find some interesting ideas such as: they competitors and, this is the most important: keywords that drive their visitors. Then what I need to do is to check these keywords finding with Google Keyword Tool.

Google Alerts

According to Google, “Google Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your choice of query or topic.” What you need to do is enter topics/subject you want to follow and enter, then Google periodically send you emails which contains all articles related to your queries.

Google Alerts has two fundamental benefits for publishers or internet marketers:

  • Get updates what is happening in your niche. Let say you want to get alerts about weight loss solution. Once you enter this query, Google will email you all newest web pages publish related to your query. This way you’ll know about competitors move, campaign or promo; it also allows you to know latest subject in the niche etc. In the long run, all these alerts might be useful for your research subjects.
  • Fastest way to know when your page is indexed by Google. Since the alerts are the latest web pages indexed you will know whenever you latest page indexed by Google.

Google Insight

Like Google Trends, Google Insight provides a real time report on search volume of that particularly keyword/subjects plus simple estimate search volume forecast. Google Insight reports are very comprehensive. You can drill down search volume by region till the smallest components: cities. You can also slice the data base on categories. The most important part of Google Insight is Search Terms section. Here you can find top keywords base on you queries plus top rising searches keywords.
