RC airplanes for beginners

RC airplanes is not just for kids, this hobby enjoy by 10 years old kids to 60 years old grandpa. It doesn’t matter how old are you, there is never too late to start this hobby. How to start this hobby is quite simple and no need much money, as long as you buy the right RC airplanes and a flight simulator software.

To start you need to choose the best RC airplanes for beginners. There are few characteristics of these airplanes such as:

  • Usually an RTF (Ready-to-Fly) type right from the box, don’t need much assembly to build these airplanes
  • Have wide wingspan for stability and provides an excellent lift-to-drag ratio
  • Don’t require large space to fly.
  • Better have 3 channels to control the RC airplanes.

If you on the market to start this hobby, as a gift or want to introduce this hobby to your kids, below my recommended RTF RC airplanes for beginners.

Ember 2 RTF RC Airplanes

The Amber2 RTF airplanes are most recommended first collections. This plane is compact, light and super easy to fly. The Ember2 RTF characters allow beginner pilots to confidently fly the Ember in a small space or even in door (after few experiences) with ease and confidence thanks to wide wingspan.

It has 3-channel and unique DSM2 Spektrum radio technologies that allow multiple planes fly at the same time with minimum interference. The package has everything you need to fly including the batteries, however it’s recommended to buy two extra batteries so you can enjoy longer flying time.

Although this RC airplane is for beginners, when you have experiences this plane will do loops and maneuvers and take winds better. Amber2 is great first collections, but since it has a model airplane looks which not attractive for many people.

Champ RTF RC planes

For those who look for RC airplanes for beginners that have real plane look, Champ RC planes should be in your short list. The Champ 3-channel (throttle, rudder and elevator) type, comes completely assembled and flight-ready, this plane also use DSM2 technology to provide freedom from signal interference whenever you fly.

The Champ is capable to accept some punches without being hurt, this means you don’t too worry to break this plane when you get some accidents. Maneuvering with the Champ is easy and responsive; this plane is easy to control in a light breeze but you need to be careful on windy day. One downside the Champ battery is too small; it only holds 10 minutes fly.

P-51 Mustang Mk II PTS RTF

I love the Mustang Mk II looks, exactly like the legendary Mustang. The P-51 Mustang Mk II is ready-to-fly right from the box as well. It has PTS technologies (Progressive Trainer System) which allow you to go from training to loops and do advanced maneuvers without upgrading or purchasing new components.

The Mustang use plastic NACA droops for extra stabilization during training perfect for beginner, when you feel you are ready for advanced maneuvers all you need is remove the plastic NACA. This Mk II is great trainer and one of the best secondary RC planes.

Radian RTF RC planes

The Radian is a large airplane with 2-meter (6.5 feet) wingspan makes this plane easy to see, control and provides an excellent lift-to-drag ratio. The Radian leverage 480 brushless motor for initial launch, then the propeller folds back to reduce drag, freeing the plane to utilize only thermals of air to remain floating. This means you save significant battery power thus let you enjoy longer flying time.

Unfortunately the Radian is not recommended if you just started this hobby. First of all, it’s fairly expensive, although this plane can take some damage it just heart breaking to see this beauty crashing. Secondly, it requires mastering little bit flight control before playing with this plane. I just put here since I love this plane :).

This hobby is very addicted, and if you want into remote controlled hobby, takes a look this Air Hogs helicopter. The Air Hogs RC helicopters are also very excited to play.
