True HEPA air purifier filter removes 99.97% of all airborne particles usually up to 0.1 micron, this grade strictly defined by US Department of Energy. The removal success rate is usually equal or higher for larger particles and for slightly smaller particles. Why this is a big issue? Because by only allow 0.03% of particle come through this filter will do the job for collecting dust, pollen, smoke and other small particles from the air. A true HEPA air purifier will help to overcome your allergy and recover for respiratory problem.

On the other hand there are several air purifiers that use “HEPA like” filter and label as HEPA filter and claimed to perform like true HEPA but actually not. These air purifiers will not help you to fight with your allergy problem since the performance of filtering pollen, dust, or smoke are questionable. A true HEPA air purifier will deliver a result in one or two hours, indicating by less sneezing or less itchy nose.

Honeywell air purifier is leader in lower market and one of the recommended models if you have more budgets is Rabbit Air BioGS from Mitsubishi Heavy Industry.

Honeywell Air Purifier

Although almost all Honeywell air purifier labeled with HEPA air purifier, not all of them have real HEPA filter, especially the under $100 models, since HEPA filter itself is quite pricey. The Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA Filter is the best selling product since its only $41 has HEPA air purifier name but don’t use real HEPA filter.

The most recommended Honeywell products are: Honeywell 50250- 99.97% Pure HEPA Air Purifier, Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort and Honeywell 17000 Permanent Pure HEPA Air Purifier. For under $200, these three models are the best air purifier with HEPA filter with Honeywell 50250 is come on top and recommended for larger room up to 390 square feet.

The Honeywell use permanent HEPA filter so it doesn’t cost you a fortune, but you need to change the pre-filter (lot cheaper) every 3 or 4 months. One little drawback in almost all Honeywell air purifier is the sound, some people found it little bit noisy especially when you set for high setting, it less noise and become some kind white noise when set low.

  • When set for silent mode it really silent, you almost hear nothing so very ideal to put it in the bedroom.
  • It has non-traditional look kind a high tech front display and finished with anti electro-static coating to prevent dust build up.
  • The pre filter is charcoal-based honeycomb activated carbon filter and washable. The HEPA filter is coated with antiviral/antibacterial agent to last longer offering virtually maintenance-free operation.

One small problem, this unit has ionizer that turns itself on every time you select a new function on the remote people found it little bit annoying though you can always turn it off. It cost almost twice compare to Honeywell but considering the design, features, and performance it’s a worthwhile investment.
